Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma meets ministers, industry leaders on Day 2 of Japan visit; invites Japanese companies to Advantage Assam 2.0

GUWAHATI, Jan 23: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is on the last leg of his five-day visit to Japan and South Korea, continued efforts to project Assam as an ideal investment destination for Japanese companies and industries.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma had addressed over 160 Japanese business leaders on Wednesday besides meeting several industry magnates and invited them to February’s Advantage Assam 2.0 investment and infrastructure summit.

Beginning the day in Tokyo by paying floral tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at the Indian Embassy, Chief Minister Sarma met Komura Masahiro, Japan’s State Minister of Justice, and underlined the Government of Assam’s intention to establish an industrial park dedicated to Japanese companies. He also spoke at length at how talented youths from Assam can help bridge the demand for skilled workforce in Japan, through ongoing programmes between the two countries.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma also met Furukawa Yasushi, Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The two leaders discussed at length on promoting tourism between Japan and Assam and strengthening ties between the two nations.

Chief Minister Sarma then travelled to Hiroshima, where he visited the Micron Memory facility and interacted with Joshua Lee, the company’s Vice President, besides asking them “to be a part of Assam’s semiconductor growth story”.

He also met Lekh Raj Juneja, CEO of Kameda Seika, and invited him to explore opportunities in Assam’s growing food sector.

Chief Minister Sarma also paid his obeisance to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima besides paying tributes to the victims of the atomic bomb attack by laying a wreath at the Memorial.

He also addressed over 80 business leaders in Osaka and invited them to Advantage Assam 2.0 as he conveyed to them his government’s target to take Assam’s GSDP to USD $143 billion by 2030.
