Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma continues talks with South Korean industry captains on Day 2 of Advantage Assam roadshow in Seoul

GWAHATI, Jan 21: A day after Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma met business and industry leaders of South Korea in Seoul, and presented Assam as a potential investment destination while also drumming up support for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Infrastructure and Investment Conclave Guwahati is scheduled to host on February 25 & 26, he continued discussions with more business leaders on the second day of his Advantage Assam roadshow in Seoul today.

“Began today’s engagements in Seoul with a productive meeting with Dr Joon Choi, Vice President of SKhynix, one of the world’s largest semiconductor vendors.

I shared my vision of establishing Assam as a global semiconductor hub and emphasized that enabling a corresponding semiconductor ecosystem is one the major priorities of our government,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma stated.

“It was an honour to call upon H.E Oh Youngju, Hon’ble Minister of SME and Startups, Govt of Republic of Korea this afternoon.

We discussed a wide array of issues related to facilitating collaboration between entrepreneurs and startups based in the State of Assam and those in South Korea,” he wrote in another update regarding his meeting with South Korean business leaders.

“It was a pleasure meeting Mr Lee Young Joo, the CEO of Seoul Viosys, an excellent innovative firm doing fabulous work in semiconductors and LED technology.

I have invited them to participate in #AdvantageAssam2 and consider joining Assam’s growing semiconductor ecosystem. From an upcoming satellite township to highest level of support from our government, we are committed to welcome all major semiconductor players,” he further wrote after meeting the CEO of Seoul Viosys.

“I spoke in depth with Mr Young Ha Ryu, the Vice President of GS Group, one of South Korea’s largest firms in renewable and clean energy, about Assam’s target to generate 3,000 MW of clean energy by 2030.

We are extremely eager to partner with enterprises who can help us meet this goal and also train a skilled workforce to service our growing RE industry,” he wrote in another update on ‘X’.

“Earlier in the day I visited the Pangyo Techno Valley in Seoul, also known as South Korea’s Silicon Valley. Techno Valley is an innovative Korean concept, that houses start ups and entrepreneurs from diverse technological backgrounds- IT, biotech and cultural- under one roof.

An ecosystem that fosters such diverse collaboration results in exceptional innovation. I also met talented Indian entrepreneurs.

I am keen to ensure collaboration between entrepreneurs & startups in Assam and Pangyo Techno Valley and we’ll take this forward in the coming days,” Chief Minister Sarma further wrote.

Chief Minister Sarma then left for Japan for the second leg of his visit where he will meet Japanese business and industry leaders and, besides inviting them to Advantage Assam 2.0, will seek their support for investments in Assam.
