GUWAHATI, Jan 13: Defending champions Manchester United defeated Arsenal 5-3 on penalties in round three of the FA Cup to keep their title defence on track.
United, playing before a full house at The Emirates, took the lead, courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ 52nd minute opener.
But Gabriel Magalhaes levelled for the home side. United were down to 10 men after Diogo Dalot was given the marching orders for a reckless challenge.
The red devils, however, put up a brave show to keep the score 1-1 after the end of normal and extra time and take the match to penalties.
United keeper Altay Bayindir was the hero of the match as he saved Kai Havertz’s spot-kick while all five penalty takers for United scored to give Amorim’s men a 5-3 victory.
