Historic! Devajit Saikia becomes new BCCI secretary replacing Jay Shah

GUWAHATI, Jan 12: Former Assam cricketer Devajit Saikia has replaced Jay Shah as the new secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

He was elected BCCI secretary at the Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Mumbai today.

Saikia, who was BCCI Joint Secretary, began discharging duties as interim secretary after Jay Shah’s elevation as chairman of ICC.

He is the first cricket administrator from Assam to become secretary of India’s cricket governing body.

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) of which he was a former secretary before taking over as joint secretary of BCCI congratulated him on assuming his new role.

Meanwhile, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia also took charge as BCCI treasurer in today’s meeting.
