GUWAHATI, Jan 8: The cold wave in North India further intensified with a thick layer of fog engulfing Delhi and other State leading to a further drop in temperatures.
Visibility as a result of the dense fog reduced further across the region, affecting flight and train services.
Reports said nearly 200 flights were delayed at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) while airports in Amritsar, Jammu, Agra etc. also recorded near-zero visibility, affecting normal take-off and landing of flights.
The maximum temperature in Delhi today is expected to be at 16.2°C, 2.8 degrees below normal, and the minimum temperature is expected to be at 7.4°C.
Temperatures are expected to further drop in the next couple of days.
People were seen lighting bonfires at many places to keep themselves warm with the cold wave particularly hitting the homeless and pavement dwellers very hard.
