GUWAHATI, Dec 25: At least 42 passengers & crew members of a Chechnya-bound Azerbaian Airlines plane were killed while 20-odd passengers survived the initial impact of the crash after the aircraft crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, reports said on Wednesday.
The plane, enroute to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya from Baku but was rerouted due to fog in Grozny, reportedly crashed near the Aktau airport.
At least 25 passengers were reported to have survived the crash, Kazakhstan authorities said, although a few of them are believed to have been seriously injured.
Five, including a 11-year-old boy and a 16-year-old teen, is believed to have suffered serious injuries.
The death toll, reports said, might increase.
