GUWAHATI, Dec 25: A worker employed in construction work of the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge was seriously injured after he was attacked by a leopard at a dredger used in bridge construction work today morning.
The injured person, identified as 20-year-old Uday Ghosh, was working near the sixth pillar of the bridge when the big cat attacked him on the dredger.
Another worker who saw the entire incident unfold before his eyes gave a chilling eyewitness account.
“It was around 7am in the morning. I saw Uday who is a helper employed with the water resources department, struggling with what appeared to me to be a dog-like creature,” the fellow employee told News Live, narrating his spine-chilling experience.
“Then I saw that it was a leopard and not a dog. The leopard was attacking Uday and both were like trying to wrestle each other. I saw Uday desperately trying to escape from the big cat’s attempts at pulling him over,” the shocked fellow worker said.

The injured man later managed to flee from the big cat’s clutches and was rushed to the GMCH where he is under treatment and is said to be out of danger.
However, sensation and terror prevails among other workers and construction officials as the leopard is still taking refuge on the dredger.
“The leopard is a full-grown one and is still hiding on the dredger. We cannot tranquilise it since it will jump into the waters and that will mean imminent death since it cannot survive in the waters for even five minutes,” a forest official told News Live.
“We will try to place a net and hope that the leopard jumps into it or else we will have to wait till dusk and monitor its movements,” the official stated.
