GUWAHATI, Dec 23: A Guatemala migrant has been arrested for allegedly setting a woman on fire and later watching her getting burned to death on a subway train in Brooklyn, New York, USA, on Sunday morning.
The incident, reports said, took place at the Stillwell Avenue Subway station in Coney Island.
The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Sebastin Zapeta, a migrant from Guatemala, who is believed to have entered the US last year.
He was arrested from another train and was found with a lighter in his pockets.
“As the train pulled into the station, the suspect calmly walked up to the victim. The female victim was in a seated position. The suspect used what we believe to be a lighter to ignite the victim’s clothing, which became fully engulfed in a matter of seconds,” New York Police Department (NYPD) officials stated during a media briefing after arresting the suspect.
The victim, also believed to be in her thirties, has not been identified yet.
