GUWAHATI, Dec 15: Bengaluru Police have arrested Nikita Singhania, the wife of 34-year-old techie Atul Subhash who died by suicide alleging mental harassment by his wife and her family members, along with Nikita’s mother Visha Singhania and brother Anurag.

They were picked up from Gurugram and Prayagraj on Saturday and were brought to Bengaluru where they were produced in a court and sent to judicial custody for 14 days, reports said.

Atul Subhash, the 34-year-old software engineer originally hailing from Uttar Pradesh, had levelled serious charges of mental harassment and extortion against his wife and her family members, before he took his life.

Atul sent a suicide note to several people and shared it in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was part of besides also recording a video and then sharing it on social media.

Bengaluru Police had registered a case against Nikita and her family members on the basis of a complaint filed by the brother of the deceased.

“Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, we have booked a case against his wife, her mother, brother and uncle, who were allegedly demanding 3 crore to settle legal disputes filed. Based on the complaint, we have booked them under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 108 (abetment of suicide) and launched an investigation,” Marathahalli police inspector Anil Kumar was earlier quoted as saying.

Reports said Atul had met his wife in a matrimonial site following which they tied the knot in 2019.

However, differences surfaced between the two, and his wife left his Bengaluru home with her son.

She and her family members, reports said, began demanding huge sums of money from Atul.

Apart from mental harassment from his wife, Atul also alleged that a judge also sought Rs 5 lakh from him to settle one of the cases.
