GUWAHATI, Dec 8: Assam Chief MInister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today attended the Bhumi Pujan ceremony of the Palasbari-Sualkuchi bridge at Palashbari in Kamrup district.
The 12.2-km-long bridge over the Brahmaputra will shorten the gap between the two important places and boost connectivity in the State, Chief Minister Sarma said, and highlighted the commitment of the BJP-led Government at the Centre and in Assam to improve connectivity.
“This is the 5th bridge after 2014 and many more are in the pipeline to connect every corner of Assam. The rapid infrastructure development taking place in the State is due to the unstinted support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma further said while addressing the gathering after the Bhumi Pujan ceremony.
“The bridge will solve a lot of issues and, besides reducing travel distance from Nalbari & Barpeta to the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, will also open new possibilities for a satellite township near Guwahati,” he added.
The bridge, Chief Minister Sarma had earlier announced, will be named after former Assam Chief Minister Bishnuram Medhi Medi and will be named Loh Purush Bishnuram Medhi Setu.
