GUWAHATI, Dec 6: The image of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman -– father of ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and one of the iconic figures of the country who is also called ‘Father of the Nation’ of Bangladesh — will be removed from currency notes of the nation.

The Dhaka Tribune has reported that Bangladesh Bank is printing new notes, including in them features of the July uprising, and that “the new notes will not include image of ‘Bangabandhu’ Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” the paper reported quoting the bank.

Religious structures, Bengali traditions, and “graffiti” drawn during the July uprising will be included, the report stated, stating that the new wads of currencies could be released into the market within the next six months.

Bank notes of 20, 100, 500, and 1,000 Bangladeshi Taka are being printed on the instructions of the Muhammad Yunus-headed interim government.
