GUWAHATI, Dec 2: Defending Champions Manchester City suffered their fourth straight defeat in the Premier League as Liverpool went nine points clear at the top following their 2-0 victory at Anfield on Sunday.

City, who are now winless in seven matches in all competitions, drifted to fifth in the leaderboard with 23 points from 13 matches while Liverpool cemented their place at the top with 34 points from as many matches.

Cody Gakpo’s first-half opener and Egyptian Mohamed Salah’s late penalty dealt another blow to the already-reeling City as Anfield erupted in joy and ecstasy.

Elsewhere, Manchester United gifted Ruben Amorim a perfect home start routing Everton 4-0 and climbing to ninth in the points table.

Chelsea inflicted more misery on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa with a commanding 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

The fourth match on Sunday saw Spurs held to a 1-1 draw by fellow Londoners Fulham.

Arsenal who shot five past West Ham in a 5-2 win on Saturday are second with 25 points. Chelsea, with 25 points and the same goal-fifference with Arsenal, are third while Brighton are fourth with 23 points.
