Perth Test: Bumrah rips apart Aussie top-order after India fold up for 150 in first innings

GUWAHATI, Nov 22: Indian stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah ripped apart the Australian top order, first claiming the wickets of openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney and then trapping Steve Smith leg-before, as the visitors bounced back after folding up for just 150 in the first innings.

Bumrah’s devastating bowling left Australia reeling at 19-3 while debutant Harshit Rana also struck to remove the dangerous Travis Head for 11.

Earlier in the morning, Bumrah, leading Team India in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth, won the toss and elected to bat first.

The decision, however, did not pay well as India kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy top scored making 41 while Rishabh Pant made 37.

KL Rahul, opening the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal (0), added 26 runs to the team total as India were bundled out for just 150 runs in 49.4 overs.

For the hosts, Josh Hazlewood picked up 4 wickets while Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh scalped two wickets each.
