Border-Gavaskar Series: Skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill to miss Perth Test

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI, Nov 17: A thumb injury will in all-likelihood keep India batter Shubman Gill out of the first test against Australia after he got injured while fielding in the slips during match simulation in Perth on Saturday.

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma is also likey to give the first test a miss after he and wife Ritika Sajdeh welcomed their second child — a boy — on Friday night.

Gill’s absence raises questions about who will take the No. 3 position with either Virat Kohli or KL Rahul tipped to fill the vacant position.

And in the absence of Rohit, the Indian team management and selectors may ask one of the India A players – Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, or Devdutt Padikkal – to stay back for the first Test, the Times of India reported.

The first Test begins at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Nov 22.
