GUWAHATI, Nov 8: Although the concept of Vanity Vans in the Indian movie appears to be very very old, it was actually Poonam Dhillon, the charismatic heroine of the 1980s, who is actually credited with the introduction of the make-up vans in Bollywood.
Poonam got the idea of Vanity Vans which she herself coined while shooting abroad. She saw that the trailer vans provided excellent conditions to the actors and actresses to take rest and use them to take make-up.
After her return, she decided to bring the concept home. She then bought a bus, converted it into a mobile utility van equipped with a toilet and air conditioning and named it “Vanity Van”.

“I didn’t realise I was making Film History when I launched my first mobile makeup van “VANITY”. Today Vanity has become generic word to describe a makeup van . Most Artists thank me for introducing the concept to the Film Industry !! Earlier had tough time shooting on location- no toilets, no place for meals or changing clothes, sitting in heat & dust,” the actress wrote on Instagram.
