GUWAHATI, Nov 4: The death toll in the road mishap in Uttarakhand’s Almora rose to 36 with the count likely to rise further, reports said.
The 45-seater passenger bus travelling from Garhwal to Kumaon in Uttarakhand fell into a deep gorge at Marchula in Almora district today morning.
Almora District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Vineet Pal, who confirmed the number of casualties, said rescue operations are ongoing and the death toll is likely to rise, The Indian Express reported.
State Police and SDRF personnel had jumped into action as they launched a search and rescue operation while the injured were rushed to local hospitals, authorities said.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief at the loss of lives in the accident and said the district administration has been instructed to conduct relief and rescue operations swiftly.
“Received very sad news of casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place in Marchula of Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to conduct relief and rescue operations swiftly,” he said on X.
