GUWAHATI, Nov 4: Khalistani activists attacked devotees at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, Canada, leading to widespread condemnation.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday called the violence at the temple “unacceptable” while many others have expressed shock and dismay over the incident.

Meanwhile police deployment at the temple in Brampton was increased after videos showed men breaching the gates of the temple and assaulting devotees inside the complex.

Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya condemned the violence in a Hindu temple and said that a “red line has been crossed” by Khalistani extremists, highlighting the rise of brazen violent extremism in Canada, the Hindustan Times reported.

Sikhs for Justice, a banned group advocating for Khalistan, said its supporters were protesting the presence of Indian consular officials, who had come to the temple to offer administrative services, including pension assistance for seniors, another report in The Indian Express stated.

Meanwhile, the Hindu Canadian Foundation, a non-profit organisation working for the Hindu community in Canada, also shared a video of the attack on the temple in which Khalistani extremists were seen attacking women and children.
