GUWAHATI, Oct 29: In a shocking incident at Silapathar in Assam’s Dhemaji district, a couple sold off its new-born baby to a childless couple for Rs 30,000.
The incident came to light after the baby was brought to a renowned pediatrician of the town named Dr Chandrajit Doley by the woman who had allegedly bought the infant.
The baby, it is learnt, was born to its biological mother at the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh but was later sold to a woman named Baby Pegu Saharia, also a resident of Silapathar.
After the incident came to light, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) filed an FIR at Silapathar Police Station following which a case has been registered and necessary action is being initiated.
