Former Indian women’s hockey team captain Rani Rampal announces retirement

GUWAHATI, Oct 24: Former captain of the Indian women’s hockey team captain, Rani Rampal, today (Oct 24) announced her retirement from the sport.

In a career spanning 16 years, Rani, daughter of a cart-puller, rose from a small town in Haryana to rub shoulders with the top players of her sport.

Rani made her international debut in 2008 and scored 205 goals in 254 matches she represented India.

Her most satisfying career achievement would be leading the women’s team to the fourth place at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, the best-ever finish at the Olympics for the Indian women’s hockey team.
