GUWAHATI, Oct 21: A day after the skeletal remains of a 68-year-old woman, who had apparently died at least three montsh ago, was discovered at her home in Jyotikuchi locality of Guwahati, shocking details have emerged on how her only son, who appears to be mentally unstable, had lived with his mother’s gradually decomposing body, and had even dined in the same room where the remains were discovered.
Purnima Dey’s body, which had almost fully decomposed and what remained was the skeleton, was discovered by Police after the local people smelt a foul smell emanating from the house. When asked about his mother, Purnima Dey’s son, Joydeep, who is said to be around 40 years old and somewhat mentally unstable, told neighbours she was sleeping. Upon suspicion, neighbours informed relatives, who, when they arrived, were denied permission to enter the house by Joydeep.
Left with no other option, relatives and the neighbours of Purnima Dey informed the police, following which the entire thing came to light.
Police found the skeletal remains lying on the bed with a photograph of Lord Shiva placed along the wall of the room.
Forensic teams were also called in after the startling discovery of the skeletal remains of the woman was made.
Neighbours said the sexagenarian woman lived with her son after the death of her husband, who was employed with the railway department, some three years ago.
A detailed probe into the whole incident is underway.
