GUWAHATI, Oct 17: At least one student protestor was killed while over 28 reportedly injured after violent clashes broke out in Rawalpindi over the alleged rape of a private college student by a security guard in Lahore.

Angry students of different colleges in Rawalpindi took to the streets and blocked main highways, protesting against the alleged rape as police launched a crackdown by arresting at least 150 protesters while using tear gas to disperse the students.

Amid the violent protests, the provincial government stated that reports of the alleged rape of the college student by the guard are fake and unsubstantiated.

The instead blamed the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for spreading fake news on social media.
