GUWAHATI, Nov 4: The death toll in the devastatng earthquake that struck northwestern Nepal has risen to 128 with the toll expected to rise further.
Dozen others were injured after the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale struck northwestern districts of Nepal late Friday night.
Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring & Research Center said the earthquake struck at 11.47 pm Nepalese time with the epicenter located in Jajarkot district’s Lamidanda, about 250 miles northeast of Kathmandu.
Rukum and Jajarkot districts are among the worst affected with at least 36 people killed at Rukum while officials said 34 people have so far been confirmed dead in Jajarkot district.
Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal on Saturday morning air-dashed to the quake affected regions along with a medical team to monitor rescue and relief operations.
Tremors were also felt in New Delhi and its adjoining areas in the National Capital Region besides in many other places in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar.
