A Bihar police constable, identified as Naveen Kumar Singh has been accused of groping and sexually harassing a group of eight girl students of Biswanath College, Assam.
The incident occurred on board the North East Express Train when the girls were returning to Assam from an educational trip in Rajasthan.
It has been alleged that the constable sneaked into the girls’ compartment when they were asleep at night and started groping them and touching them inappropriately.
Distressed by the situation and receiving no immediate assistance, the students and their teachers took matters into their own hands, apprehending the accused and confining him inside the compartment.
Sharing information about the incident, Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal of Biswanath College said, “A Bihar police constable, who was in civilian dress, whose identity was revealed through his identity card, reportedly abused a group of eight girls, along with their teachers. The girls apprehended the constable and handed him over to railway police. What is regrettable is that there was no immediate response from the authorities. The students and teachers had to handle the situation themselves and hand over the accused themselves”.
