Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday appealed to the people of Manipur to lift the blockades from National Highway-2 so that basic and essential goods such as food, medicines and fuel can reach the state. Posting a tweet on his official handle, Shah also asked members of the civil society to take the initiative in this context.
Taking to Twitter, the Home Minister said, “My sincerest appeal to the people of Manipur is to lift the blockades at the Imphal-Dimapur, NH-2 Highway, so that food, medicines, Petrol/Diesel, and other necessary items can reach the people.”

Amit Shah also urged civil society organisations to facilitate bringing consensus on the matter.
The appeal by Amit Shah comes days after those in possession of illegal weapons in the state surrendered it to the police.
Over 140 weapons were surrendered to the police on Friday after Shah had issued a stern warning. The Union home minister had warned that a combing operation for the weapons would start soon, and anyone found with illegal weapons would face strict action.
Ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts on May 3 to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. Since then there have been waves of unrest, including the latest round of clashes which saw at least 5 dead on Sunday.
