GUWAHATI, May 16: Assam policewoman Junmoni Rabha, who had shot to fame after she arrested her then fiancé for alleged fraud and was subsequently arrested in the same case, died on the spot after her car met with a head-on accident with a multi-wheel truck on the NH 37 late last night.
Junmoni, officiating as the in-charge of Morikolong police outpost in Nagaon district, left her official residence alone in her personal car after midnight.
She took to the national highway, moving towards upper Assam. Her car, however, reportedly collided head-on with a trailer-truck at Jakhalabandha. Such had been the intensity of the crash that the young policewoman, who had made a name for herself as a brave and courageous woman in khaki during her short stint with the police force, died on the spot and was declared brought-dead by doctors of the local hospital in Jakhalabandha where she was rushed to after the mishap.
Junmoni’s death, however, is now shrouded in mystery with her family members and relatives questioning the circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
“There should be a proper inquiry into the accident. We can’t accept that she died due to an accident. It looks like a cold-blooded murder,” a relative said.
Meanwhile, the Junmoni’s mother and aunt made another explosive allegation and accused police of seizing Rs 1 lakh from her residence after the accident had taken place.
The money, they claimed, was profited from the sale proceeds of poultry, goats and pigs sold by the slain cop’s mother.
“I had not slept the whole night. I waited for my daughter but she didn’t return… But the Nagaon SP and the DSP came and searched the house and seized money I had earned selling poultry, goats and pigs. I kept calling my daughter but she didn’t answer my call,” Junmoni’s mother said.
