GUWAHATI, May 9: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested today as he was entering the Islamabad High Court for a hearing in one of the cases lodged against him since his unceremonious ouster from office last year.
The cricketer-turned-politician was immediately taken into custody from the court premises by paramilitary forces and has been taken to Rawalpindi, reports said.
“Imran Khan has been arrested in the Qadir Trust case,” Islamabad Police tweeted while claiming that the situation was “normal”.
According to allegations, Bahria Town, a private real estate company, allotted land worth 530 million Pakistani rupees to the Al-Qadir Trust which is owned by the PTI chairman and his wife.
Video footages showed a swarm of paramilitary personnel surrounding Imran Khan and whisked him away to an armoured vehicle.
