PM Modi meets The Elephant Whisperers couple Bomman and Bellie at Theppakadu Elephant Camp

It was a rather proud moment for India after The Elephant Whisperers won big time at the Oscars. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate Guneet Monga, Kartiki Gonsalves on the big win. The film is a short documentary based on real-life couple, Bomman and Bellie who adopted a baby elephant.

On April 9, PM Narendra Modi visited Theppakadu Elephant Camp and met The Elephant Whisperers couple, Bomman and Bellie. Photos and videos from the same are going viral.

PM MODI MEETS BOMMAN, BELLIE

PM Narendra Modi has finally met Bomman and Bellie, the inspiration behind Oscar-winning documentary, The Elephant Whisperers. After sharing many photos from Bandipur Tiger Reserve, PM Modi’s videos with the couple from Theppakadu Elephant Camp are now out. Standing beside Bomman and Bellie, PM Modi was seen gently caressing the elephants at the reserve.

Taking to Twitter PM Modi wrote, “What a delight to meet the wonderful Bomman and Belli, along with Bommi and Raghu.”

PM Modi visited Theppakadu elephant camp at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) and interacted with Bomman and Bellie, the main stars of Oscar-winning documentary, The Elephant Whisperers. As a part of the security blanket, the MTR authorities had ordered a temporary closure of hotels, elephant safari and tourist vehicles inside the area from April 7 to 9.

Roads leading to MTR from Mysuru in Karnataka were given a new look and a helipad was readied at Singara for PM Modi to land. Besides, pathways in villages were being renovated, 30 electric poles were installed to provide electricity in tribal areas, modernising the swimming area of elephants, the officials said.

The Elephant Whisperers is the first Indian production to bag the Oscar for Best Documentary Short. The documentary is about a couple and their bond with orphaned baby elephants, Raghu and Ammu. The documentary is now streaming on Netflix.
