Guwahati: Veteran Assamese actor Nipon Goswami’s last journey has begun today. The veteran actor’s last rites are to be performed later today with full state honours at Navagraha crematorium in Guwahati.
However, yesterday morning, he passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. Following his demise, the mortal remains were taken to Jyoti Chitrabon Film Studio where it was kept overnight for fans, organizations and personalities from the film industry to pay their last respects.
In order for people to offer their final tributes to Goswami, his mortal remains were taken to Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra this morning.
The body is now carried to Dighalipukhuri, close to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s tomb.
The All Assam Students Union leadership would thereafter pay their final tribute to the veteran actor at the AASU headquarters in Uzan Bazar after the body had been brought there.
The actor’s mortal remains would be taken to the Navagraha crematorium where the last rites would be conducted with full state honours.
The veteran actor of the Assamese film industry breathed his last yesterday. Goswami passed away at the age of 80.
Nipon Goswami was one of the most well-known personalities in the cultural strata of Assam and is regarded as the doyen of the Assamese film industry.
He was admitted to the ICU of Guwahati’s Nemcare Hospital owing to cardiac illness.
