Assam-Meghalaya border talks: CMs of both state to hold crucial meet today

The second phase of the Assam-Meghalaya border dialogue is will begin today, with Chief Ministers of both states set to hold a crucial meet in the Assam Secretariat and initiate dialogue on the remaining six areas of difference.

After signing the historic Memorandum of Understanding in March this year for six areas of difference in the first phase, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma will hold Chief Ministerial level talks for the remaining six areas of difference in the second phase in the Chief Minister’s office today.

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday informed that after the Chief Ministerial-level meet, the regional committees of both the states will be notified on the outcome of the meet.

Tynsong stated that the government is committed to start the second phase of the border dialogue and ensure an amicable solution to the interstate border issue with Assam.

He further added that the party will not go back on the MoU signed with Assam under any circumstances.

Worth mentioning here Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had earlier informed that the second phase of the Assam-Meghalaya border talks will begin after August 15.
