Guwahati: One of the most important Hindu festivals, this year the festival of Navratri has begun on October 7, 2020, and it will end on October 15, 2020. Today is the sixth day of Navratri. On the sixth day of Navratri, the sixth form of Goddess Durga Maa Katyayani is worshipped. She is one of the warrior-goddess avatars of Maa Durga. Goddess Parvati took the form of Goddess Katyayani to destroy demon Mahishasura.
According to religious texts, Goddess Parvati is the daughter of sage Katyaya, and due to which this form of Goddess Parvati is known as Katyayani.
Goddess Katyayani is depicted with four hands. She carries lotus flower and sword in her left hands and keeps her right hands in Abhaya and Varada Mudras. She rides on the magnificent lion. It is believed that devotees who worship her with pure heart, Maa Katyayani fulfill their wishes.

Shardiya Navratri 2020, 6th day: Puja vidhi and mantra
On this day also devotees offer coconut and red colour flowers especially rose to appease Goddess. They even invoke Maa Skanda Mata by doing mantra jap, offering all relevant puja samagri, performing arti, and at last distributing Prasad.
Interestingly, this form of the Goddess Durga was worshipped by Maa Sita, Rukmini, and the Gopis in the Braj region, to get a good husband. Hence, unmarried girls pray to Goddess Katyayani to get a life partner of their choice and married women pray to her for the healthy lives of their husbands. It is believed that the planet Brihaspati is governed by Goddess Katyayani.
