GMC ELECTIONS BY MID OCTOBER

GUWAHATI: After the successful completion of Lok Sabha elections 2019 the Assam government is now gearing up for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Elections.  The state government has given a green signal to the Assam Election Commission to conduct the election. According to a source if everything goes according to the plan the elections can be expected by mid October.

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation elections was due last year but couldn’t be conducted due to NRC and other reasons. There are 31 wards that come under GMC. The last election was held in June 2013.  The elections are conducted every 5 years.

The State election commission has ordered the district administration to prepare the voters’ list. According to a notice issued by the election commission the first draft of voters’ list will be out by 2nd August.  After that, claims and objections can be filed till 13th of August and will be resolved by 3rd September. And the final voters’ list will be out by 13th September.
