GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited handloom, textile and sericulture department in Guwahati to take stock of various schemes and activities of the department.
In his meeting with the officials in the presence of minister UG Brahma, the chief minister asked the department to provide quality yarn to the weavers. He asked to revive Assam Apex Weavers and Artisans Cooperative Federation (ARTFED) and set up display counters for handloom products at Assam Bhawans and different cities.

Transform the dept into a potent platform for weavers of the State.
Revisit Yarn Bank Scheme to maximise benefit to weavers.
extensive forward & backward market linkages for weavers,” stated a tweet by chief minister office.
