GUWAHATI: The Assam Government is moving ahead with the COVID19 vaccination drive on a war footing. An initial target of three lakh doses per day till 30th June has been announced and all the districts are actively taking part in this drive on a mission mode.

The good news on the fight against Coronavirus is – the positivity rate has come down to 2 percent. This will increase chances of reducing the curfew hours in some districts that have low infection rate. On Monday, the percentage of infection came down to 1.64. On Tuesday, a total of 1,70,856 persons were tested for COVID19 in Assam and 2805 were found to be positive. The number of persons infected with COVID19 has come down below 3000 after many weeks and that is a positive signal.

On the other hand, the vaccination drive has broken records with 3,71,080 people vaccinated on the very first day, way above the target of 3 lakh.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “By 15 August almost everyone in the state will receive the vaccine, at least the first dose. We have received a good response for vaccination. Though our target is 2 lakh 60 thousand but on the first day itself we have achieved more than 3 lakh. If the flow of vaccine continues we will keep moving at this speed with good spirit.”

Speaking about the coming down of infection rates and curfew relaxation the chief minister said that the cabinet will decide the same on Wednesday and a new SOP will be released.
