90 Palestinians, 3 Israeli hostages freed on Day 1 of Gaza ceasefire

GUWAHATI, Jan 20: Ninety Palestinian prisoners were released early on Monday by Israeli authorities after the Hamas handed over three Israeli hostages as part of a 42-day ceasefire deal.

Those freed from Israeli prisons, Hamas stated, included 69 women and 21 teenage boys from the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, the three Israeli prisoners released by Hamas were all women. An emotional video shared by the Israeli military showed the hostages, identified as Emily Damari, Romi Gonen, and Doron Steinbrecher, reunited with their mothers.

Hamas has agreed to release 33 hostages — including children and women as part of the first phase of the ceasefire deal in exchange of hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
