At least two aftershocks were also reported after the 7.2 Magnitude earthquake in Myanmar
GUWAHATI, March 28: A 7.2 magnitude earthquake jolted Myanmar with a couple of aftershocks also experienced as the tremors were also felt in Assam, including the capital city of Guwahati, along with other parts of the State.
The National Centre for Seismology stated that the earthquake, which was experienced at 11:50 am, had its epicentre in Myanmar.
The epicentre of the quake was about 17.2 km from the city of Mandalay, which has a population about 1.2 million, the USGS said.
Another earthquake, which measured 7.0 on the Richter Scale, was recorded at 12:02 pm IST, the epicentre of which was also in Myanmar.
People in Guwahati were seen scampering out of offices and buildings in panic.
“The earthquake shook our building. Everyone was running out of the office in panic,” Kalyan, who works in a corporate house with its offices located in Guwahati’s GS Road, told News Live.
No reports of loss of life or damage to property in Assam and the rest of the region has been known so far although considering the intensity of the earthquake, there are apprehensions that there could loss of life and damages to property near the epicentre.
