GUWAHATI, Jan 9: At least six devotees were killed while around 40 others injured in a stampede in the temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
The stampede took place at Bairagi Patteda near MGM School, when thousands of pilgrims rushed to secure tickets for the Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam at the famous Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple.
President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi also expressed grief and sorrow over the incident.
“Heartbroken over the loss of lives of many devotees due to a stampede in Tirupati,” she wrote on ‘X’.
“Sad at the stampede in Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. My condolences first and foremost are with all of those who had loved ones who were murdered. I pray for the injured, and hope they will recover soon. Those impacted will receive every assistance the Andhra Pradesh government can provide,” Prime Minister Modi stated while expressing grief over the incident.
The Andhra Pradesh government, meanwhile, announced Rs 25 lakh compensation for families of the stampede victims.
