5-year girl kidnapped from Guwahati rescued in Lakhimpur’s Boginodi; domestic help held; role of minor’s father also under scanner

GUWAHATI, Nov 10: A five-year-old girl, allegedly abducted by a young woman working with the family as a domestic help, has been rescued from Boginodi in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

The minor was reportedly kidnapped from Beltola Bazaar in Guwahati by the domestic help who has also been held by police.

The rescued minor and the domestic help, identified as Sumi Gogoi, are being brought to Guwahati.

The minor’s mother had lodged a complaint at Dispur Police Station after her child went missing. Dispur Police, based on the missing complaint, registered a case (Case No. 1218/24) under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (punishment for kidnapping a person from their lawful guardianship).

Police acted swiftly and rescued the minor two days after the kidnapping took place while arresting the domestic help.

Incidentally, the minor’s father, who is also under the scanner, has been detained by police who are looking at his possible role in the kidnapping.
