GUWAHATI, Jan 13: The wildfires raging in Los Angeles have claimed at least 24 lives so far while and reducing 12,000 structures including homes and businesses to ash.
The fires, which began last Tuesday, are likely to continue until the middle of this week after being driven by the strong Santa Ana winds.
The National Weather Service warned the strong winds could soon return and issued red flag warnings for severe fire conditions through Wednesday.
Although the cause of the devastating blaze is yet to be known, the inferno has become the worst wildfires in the history of the United States.
Meanwhile, reports say initial estimates have pegged the damage and economic losses between USD 135 billion to USD 150 billion.
Six major wildfires — the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Kenneth Fire, Hurst Fire, Woodley Fire, Lidia Fire, Sunset Fire, and Tyler Fire — are blazing around Los Angeles.
The wildfires in Palisades and Eaton have been the worst and both, reports stated, are now among the most destructive in California’s history.
