Guwahati: Though the number of train passengers has come down, Assam has witnessed a substantial increase of incoming air passengers.

Talking to media persons at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Now 2000-2200 flight passengers arrive in Assam per day. The number of passengers to Guwahati has come down. But the number has increased for Sonitpur and Hojai districts. As of now we can manage, but if the number of passengers increase to 3,000 it will be difficult for us.”

He urged airport employees to take adequate precaution in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

“It has become difficult to ensure social distancing since the airport in Guwahati is comparatively smaller,” Sarma added.
