GUWAHATI, Nov 27: The 1st North East Para Sports Meet 2024 kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati today with more than 500 participants from six northeastern states competing in five disciplines during the three-day event.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Assam Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika in the presence of Pride East Entertainments Pvt. Ltd. CMD Riniki Bhuyan Sharma who is also the Organising President of the tournament, Syed Zarir Hussain, Chief Managing Editor (News Live) & Media Vice-President (Pride East Entertainments Pvt. Ltd.) Kausar Jamil Hilaly, Secretary, Sports and Youth Welfare Dept., Government of Assam, and Sunil Pradhan, Treasurer, Paralympic Committee of India, along with several other dignitaries and invited guests.
The tournament is being hosted by Udayachal, a unit of the Jadav Chandra Bhuyan Memorial Trust working for inclusive & holistic development of children with special needs, in association with the Paralympics Association of Assam and under the aegis of the Paralympic Committee of India.
The events will be held at Udayachal, Pandu; Sarusajai Stadium and at Vandya International School, Amingaon.
Incidentally, the State winning the highest number of medals will be awarded the Jadav Chandra Bhuyan Special trophy.
Earlier on Monday, the mascot of the event named Puhor, the jersey and the Jadav Chandra Bhuyan Special trophy were launched during a special event held at Udayachal which was attended by Pride East CMD Riniki Bhuyan Sharma and Syed Zarir Hussain, among other dignitaries.
