183 Children infected by COVID19 in Red Districts of Nagaon, Tezpur

GUWAHATI: In Assam, children as young as six months to 14 years are getting infected by COVID19 virus. Most of these cases have been reported from the Red Districts of Tezpur and Nagaon. In past 12 days (from 14 June) a total of 172 children have tested positive for Coronavirus in Nagaon. In Tezpur, 11 children from the orphanage of Missionaries of Charity have been reported infected by the deadly virus.

“We have increasing cases of lactating mothers getting positive. From 14 June, we have 172 cases being reported from different hospitals in our district. Many of the children on feed got infected through their mothers. Most of the children are asymptomatic and we are providing medicine and all necessary care to them,” said Atul Chandra Pator, joint director, health department, Nagaon.

Till date, a total of 31 children were being provided treatment and care at Ananda Ram Dhekial Pukhan College in Nagaon that has been converted to a COVID19 care centre.

“11 children and 5 caretakers have tested positive. All the children are divyangs (specially-abled),” said a health official in Tezpur.

This new trend of children getting infected by COVID19 virus in the past two weeks has raised concern among the people of the state.
