Guwahati: Eighteen people, including seven children, were killed in separate incidents of lightning in Rajasthan’s Jaipur, Kota, Jhalawar and Dholpur districts on Sunday, police said.
Twenty-one people, including six children, were also injured in lightning incidents in separate villages in the state, they said.
The remaining deaths have been reported from Amer on the outskirts of Jaipur. People had gathered at the Amer Fort Watchtower to enjoy the pleasant weather of the day when heavy lightning struck on Sunday evening.
A total of 17 people reportedly suffered injuries. They were rescued by joint teams of the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The injured have been taken to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur.
The Rajasthan government has directed authorities concerned to offer all kinds of assistance to the families of deceased and injured persons. District Collector Antar Singh reached Amer Fort to inspect the situation.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the family members of those who died in lightning strikes.
