18 Bangladeshi migrants apprehended by NF Railway RPF in Dec 2024; 90 minors, 2 women also rescued

GUWAHATI, Jan 3: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway apprehended 18 Bangladeshi nationals and 1 agent at Agartala railway station in different drives conducted during the month of December, 2024.

The RPF also rescued 90 minors and 2 women from different stations during same period. The rescued minors were later handed over to authorities concerned, NF Railway CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated in a release.

On December 22, RPF and GRP team of Agartala and SIB/Badarpur team jointly conducted a routine check at Agartala railway station and apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals. Later, the three illegal migrants were handed over to the authorities concerned for further legal action.

In another incident on December 19, RPF/SIB team of Guwahati and RPF team of Kamakhya conducted regular checks at Kamakhya railway station. During the check, they rescued three runaway minors from Kamakhya railway station.

Later, after ascertaining the address of the minors, they were handed over to Child Line, Guwahati for safe custody.

Similarly in an incident on December 29, RPF team of Rangapara North rescued three runaway minors while conducting regular checks. Later, the rescued minors were handed over to Child Line, Tezpur for safe custody.

It may be mentioned here that RPF of NF Railway rescued 906 minor children and 61 women with arrest of 9 human traffickers during the period from January to December, 2024.

The rescued children/women were handed over to respective Child Line/NGOs, parents and Government Railway Police. Moreover, RPF of NF Railway apprehended more than 300 illegal migrants during the period, the release further stated.
