Guwahati: Assam cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma came down heavily on Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) at his political rallies in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Sarma said, “From the last 15 years BPF has been forming government at BTR and has only created problems for the people. Under the BPF rule people cannot buy and sell lands or can’t even get a house without a bribe. People also have to pay middlemen for obtaining old age pension and widow pension. Under these circumstances how can you expect people to support the BPF? We can’t support such a party and they are not going to change. We have to understand the plight of the people.”
Taking a dig at the Congress party, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Congress won’t take any action against Wazed Ali Choudhury or Ajmal. Now they have claimed that they don’t need any votes from Upper Assam. These people don’t have any kind of respect for the people and culture of Assam. The kind of remarks by Wazed Ali Choudhury proves that the Congress party has gone far away from the main objective of serving Assam and the country.”
Dr. Sarma also lambasted AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal for his comments that AIUDF and Congress are going to join hands in Delhi.
“It doesn’t bother me where AIUDF and Congress are going to join their hands officially. They can form the alliance wherever they want to. It may be in Delhi or Pakistan or even Bangladesh. It’s their choice.”
Himanta Biswa Sarma also added, “During Hagrama Mohilary’s rule in BTC, political murders were initiated. Lafikul Islam was murdered for political reasons. I am soon going to meet Home Minister Amit Shah along with Ranjeet Kumar Dass and definitely urge him to hand over the murder case of Lafikul Islam to the CBI.”
