14 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, held in Cachar; 21 held in past 48 hours

The Bangladeshi nationals had crossed over to India 6 years ago and were working in Surat in Gujarat

As many as 14 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, who had crossed over to India illegally and were working in Surat town in Gujarat for the past 6 years, were held from Cachar district in two seperate incidents on Sunday.

With this the total number of illegal Bangladeshi migrants held in Cachar district in the past 48 hours rose to 21.

The Bangladeshi nationals were first held by the local people and were later handed over to the Cachar Police.

In the first incident, local people intercepted two autorickshaws at Hilara locality of Cachar in which the nine Bangladeshi nationals were travelling. Upon questioning about their identity, it came to light that they were Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India six years ago.

Five other Bangladeshi nationals were held from Bishambharpur area of Katigorah later in the evening.

All 14 Bangladeshi nationals were later handed over to police.

The illegal Bangladeshi nationals said they were working in Surat town of Gujarat but had to flee to Assam after authorities there launched a crackdown on them.

Seven Bangladeshi nationals were earlier held by Cachar Police from Katigorah on Saturday while the number of Bangladeshis held in Katogorah in the past one month has crossed the 100 mark.
