130 passengers deboard at Guwahati Railway Station, Himanta Biswa Sarma monitors transit

GUWAHATI: The first special passenger train from Delhi entered Assam on Wednesday and reached Guwahati Railway Station at night amid COVID-19 lockdown. Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was present at the railway station to monitor the transit of the 130 passengers to their respective districts for screening and quarantine.

Later Dr. Sarma visited Sarusajai Stadium where 51 people among the 130 passengers who debaorded in Guwahati were brought for screening. After taking their swabs, they were sent to quarantine. Minister Sarma discussed the necessary preparedness and cautions with the passengers.

Earlier, when 15 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the evening, Dr. Sarma immediately rushed to Mahendra Mohand Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) in Guwahati to take stock of the preparedness for the treatment of the patients. He also visited the Rajkamal Hotel and potato godown at Fancy Bazaar from where 11 COVID-19 patients were shifted to the hospital.
