GUWAHATI, Nov 13: Organized rackets involved in gold smuggling are using ingenious ways to smuggle the precious yellow metal. Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), however, are also up to the task on many occasions. DRI sleuths today made another massive haul of gold biscuits hidden inside the chassis of an SUV at Sonapur on the outskirts of Guwahati today.

Two persons, identified as Md. Tari Monsur and Md. Iqbal Hussain and hailing from Thoubal district of Manipur, were arrested following the seizure.

Acting on a tip-off, DRI sleuths carried out a search in an Eco Sports car (bearing registration AS-01-BS-3330). The car was heading towards Guwahati from Imphal and was intercepted at Sonapur where the gold biscuits were seized. The vehicle was then brought to one of the manufacturer workshops where two more biscuits were recovered.

“More than a 100 biscuits were seized at Sonapur where the raid was conducted. Then the car was brought here where we found two more biscuits hidden inside the chassis,” a mechanic of the workshop said.
