GUWAHATI/BOKAJAN: Assam girl Shreya Bhattacharjee has won gold in Tabla playing at an international cultural event held in Singapore.
10-year-old Shreya from Bokajan, Assam represented India in the Tabla playing category at a UNESCO event organised by the Global Council of Arts and Culture. Around 40 Tabla players took part in this competition.
“I got an opportunity after being selected from an event in Pune, Maharashtra. I am happy that I have won the gold and have brought this honour to Assam. By the grace of my guru I have won this first position,” said Shreya.
“We are very happy at her achievement. Also, that a girl from Assam has achieved this makes us proud. She won the nationals twice and got chance in this international event. She performed very well in Singapore and won the gold prize. I thank the people of Assam and especially News Live for encouraging her talent,” said the proud father.
Shreya’s mother said, “I thank everyone by whose grace Shreya has reached this far. She has worked very hard to achieve this. She would get up at night to practice and the hard work has resulted in this win. We thank the lord for her achievement.”
