Asian Games: Indian shooters bag two silvers

Indian shooters bagged two silver medals on the second day of the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games 2018 to take India’s overall medal tally to four (till 4pm Monday). The first medal on the second day came from shooting after Deepak Kumar won a silver in the men’s 10m Air Rifle event.

On the other hand, Lakshay Sheoran won the silver in men’s trap shooting to give India its fourth medal.

The biggest disappointment for India came after the exit of two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar.

The Indian women shuttlers were knocked out in the women’s team badminton quarterfinals against Japan. Although PV Sindhu won the opener against Akane Yamaguchi in straight sets 21-18, 21-19, Saina Nehwal lost to Nozomi Okuhara 11-21, 25-23, 16-21 while the Indians also lost the double’s match.

In women’s freestyle 50 kg wrestling event, Vinesh Phogat entered the final after defeating Uzbekistan’s Dauletbike Yakhshimuratova via technical superiority in the semi-final.

However, Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik disappointed after losing 7-8 to Kyrgyzstan’s Aisuluu Tynybekova in the quarterfinals.
