Ambati Rayudu reported for suspect bowling action

PUBLISHED:

India’s woes in Australia have been compounded with the International Cricket Council (ICC) reporting Ambati Rayudu for suspect bowling action after he bowled against Australia in the first one-dayer at Sydney yesterday (Jan 12).

“Ambati Rayudu has been reported with a suspect bowling action during the first one-day international against Australia in Sydney on Saturday. The match officials’ report, which was handed over to the India team management, cited concerns about the legality of the 33-year-old off-spinner’s bowling action,” a release issued by the ICC reported.

The ICC also stated that Rayudu’s bowling action will now be scrutinized and will be required to undergo testing within 14 days. He will however, be allowed to continue bowling in international cricket until results of the tests are declared.

“Rayudu’s bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Rayudu is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known,” the release further added.

The development comes after the soup over KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya following their comments against women in the celebrity talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’. The BCCI also asked the duo to return home from Australia following the controversy besides suspending them with immediate effect and banning them from playing any tournament authorised by the Indian Cricket Board or the ICC.
